Nov 6

November 6, 2006

Here’s one of our favorite places in Cibecue. We look at the sign surrounded by barbed wire and wonder why it just doesn’t make us feel all that welcome.

First of all it’s necessary to add something to yesterday’s entry. We forgot to say that we almost hit a horse on our way home last night. We came home just when it was getting dark (remember a previous entry about not being out after dark???) and all of a sudden there was this horse slowly meandering across the road. Fortunately, it just stepped out of our path as we were braking to avoid hitting it. If it hadn’t we certainly would have had horsemeat for supper because we never saw it until it was right there. It was a light brown color and just perfectly blended with the dusk.

Another thing we forgot yesterday…we were tired when we wrote our journal entry…We took 2 girls home from church. They are both scheduled to be baptized November 25. One of them asked who will baptize her and I explained that she could choose someone. She had been upstairs in Primary with me so she said, “OK. I want you to do it.” I had to explain that just wouldn’t work out, but she could choose the Elders or President Benito or Elder Charlton, but I thought it was very cute.

We visited this morning with Alma, the girl who just had the baby. We talked President Benito into giving her a food order even though he hadn’t verified her membership in San Carlos. As we were talking to her Robert asked her if she is a member of the church and she said yes. Then he asked her branch president’s name. She said, “Is that the guy who owns the church?” We said no. Actually we think His name is Jesus, but didn’t share that with her. Robert explained that this would be the man who conducts the meetings and she gave us a name. Then he asked if she’d been baptized and she said no, she’s a member but hasn’t been baptized. Oops! We’re pretty sure Benito is going to excommunicate us and we’ll be able to come home really soon. Really, he was quite forgiving and even counseled me to increase the food order, as he didn’t think we had enough. When she said she wasn’t baptized yet I asked if we could have the missionaries give her the lessons and she said yes.

After visiting with Alma we delivered several invitations for the Thanksgiving dinner. This afternoon we met with our supervisor, Ken Brown, from the Family Services office in Snowflake. We told him we want to go to California for Christmas and he said it’s fine with him if it’s ok with the mission president. We said the mission president is fine with it. We haven’t exactly asked him but we’re quite sure that’s how he feels about it. Then delivered more invitations, and are getting ready to have dinner with the Elders.

Let me get this straight...you nearly killed something, misused sacred tithing funds, confused a primary kid, AND then you lied! My goodness. I should save the church from these crazy folk.

This was funny. Very funny. You wanna go public with this blog? You'd be popular...

Ethan had his first basketball practice tonight. The coach's eyes lit up when he saw Ethan's size. The enthusiasm dimmed somewhat when Ethan's lack of skills became apparent. However, the coaches were really patient with him and he made some improvements by the end of practice.

Thanks for the church clothes for the kids! What a fun surprise.

Love,
Heather
