Oct 3

October 3, 2006

First order of business tonight is some sincere repentance on my part. We went back to the post office to try again to get a post office box. This time I made an effort to talk to the woman and discovered she is actually a very nice person and actually the first resident of the town we talked to. In fact we could hardly get away. We found out that her 16-year-old son committed suicide last April. Poor lady! She said he “suicided on himself.”

This morning we bought groceries and a new mattress. The one here had been on the floor. It had a hole in it that had been covered with, yes, electrical tape. We were concerned about what might have been living inside the mattress, so purchased another. Then we came out here to clean but ended up having company all day. Another missionary couple from White River came out to get acquainted and just as they were leaving the Branch President, his wife and 2 children came. They were all very pleasant people.

Then we started cleaning the trailer has been fixed up but it’s very dirty. The firig was awful. Obviously missionaries aren’t into cleaning refrigerators—didn’t expect that they would. So tonight we’re exhausted and that’s all I’m going to write. We feel pretty isolated tonight, as we don’t have cell phone service and don’t have a phone line in yet. Other than that we’re fine. I’m choosing not to records the stories of fleas and black widows that we heard today. I’ll not leave that for my posterity to read.

Grandma Pitts just visited. She said she can't come and see you again until you clean that pig sty. She also suggested you chase those Elders with a broom and "beat some cleanliness into them."
