March 26, 2007

This morning Robert made several calls about renting a van for our trip this weekend. The only place he found anything cost $600, so guess that’s really not an option.

Our supervisor from Family Services came this morning for his monthly consultation. We had a good talk with him. He’s really a great person. He told us how he joined the church. His wife was a member and they were living in Salt Lake while they both attended University of Utah. He went to church regularly with her and paid his tithing, and one Sunday the Bishop told him they hadn’t received his records. His wife said, that would be because he’s not a member. So the ward missionaries started visiting, but Ken still had some questions. One night he had a dream in which a professor at the university talked to him and told him that even though the professor wasn’t a member he felt that there were many truths in the Mormon doctrine. He also saw a book, and just caught a glimpse of the cover. The next day they were in Provo and went to BYU Bookstore. Just as they were leaving the store, he saw the same book and purchased it. The book was written by J. Reuben Clark and answered specifically many of his questions. He was baptized shortly after.

After he left Kit Cody called us. We haven’t seen him since before Christmas. His nephew is the boy from Whiteriver who died recently. We gave him a ride over to the clinic, then took a “Baby’s 1st Easter” bib to Alma that was in the girls’ clothing Veda gave us. Alma was really tickled. We talked to Murphy and he said he didn’t have any bread, so we took him part of a loaf, which is all we had, and some rolls I made today. While we were driving around, we were kind of discussing whether or not to take dinner to Myrna. We also visited Cheryl and decided to take them to Phoenix tomorrow, which we really don’t want to do. So then we had to visit the people we thought we’d visit tomorrow and just didn’t think we’d have time to do dinner for Myrna. Just as we were discussing this, and waffling back and forth about it, Myrna drove by. We thought it was her vehicle but were uncertain, so we followed it and said if it went to Myrna’s work it must be her. When it did, we said, “OK, Lord, we can take a hint. Guess we’re supposed to do dinner for Myrna.” So we stopped and told her we would, then turned out the lady we thought we needed to give the temple lesson to wasn’t home and neither was another lady we thought we should visit. Guess the Lord kinda knew who would need us today and who wouldn’t.

We had a delightful visit with Alfred and Thelma. We really like that couple. I told him I really appreciated his speaking in English when he talked about us and he just laughed and said he did that on purpose and hoped we’d noticed. They’re very cute.

Bill Ghormley, from facilities/maintenance group for the stake came and fixed our air conditioner, which has been leaking ever since he turned it back on. While he was visiting with us, Robert Ivins stopped by. We hadn’t seen him since Christmas either. Then the little girl we think stole our planner came over and wanted us to buy an enchilada dinner from her aunts for $5 to help pay for someone to go on a field trip. We said, just fence the planner, you’ll have plenty of money. Just kidding! But we did say no because we already had dinner cooked and we told her no more candy until whoever stole “something” from us either talks to us about it or returns it. She certainly didn’t appear to have a guilty conscience.

We sent pork chops, funeral potatoes, corn and hot rolls to Myrna. The rolls didn’t raise very well, will need to experiment to see what they need here in the desert/mountains.

The challenge is on! We all have our CTR rubber bracelets. Ethan and Allison have a few modifications to their complaining challenge: They have to get 50 stars by the end of Spring break. Allison loses her bracelet for the day when she uses "bad attitude words". Ethan loses his when he cries for no good reason (only good reasons: blood and near death). The adults have to follow your guidelines. Although we would like to know: does listing problems with something constitute complaining?

I am so glad you had an opportunity to help Myrna again. I think about her almost every day. Have a good week.
