Today was a Auto Repair, Homemaking, Fire Safety, Redeem the Dead day. We’re not sure which category we fit into.

The battery on the van was dead Sunday (that’s not the Redeem the Dead part) so this morning Robert charged it and got it ready for Scout Run tomorrow, which he carefully manipulated his way out of by planning a trip to Phoenix. More on that later.

Then we delivered flyers for Homemaking Super-Day this Saturday. A particularly nasty job for poor Robert because everywhere we went was pure mud from yesterday’s storm. We got back from that to find an inspector here who checked the fire extinguishers in the trailer and church. He had been a fireman for many years prior to his current job. He was a cheery sort. Basically, he said that if we have a fire in the trailer he’s never seen a manufactured home saved in all his years as a fireman, so forget the fire extinguisher and run like __________!

By then it was 1:00 and time to pick up our Family History Center group, which ended up being Irene and Murphy. Betty gave us a Family Group Sheet to enter into the system, but couldn’t go with us. We were planning to take a group every Tuesday in January to the FHC, but the lady there told us they’re switching to a whole new program for our temple district and there’s no point in having everyone learn the old one. The new program should be available in February, so we’re going to postpone any more trips until then, unless someone has a name they want to do right away.

Murphy wants to get the work done for his brother who died in a car accident when he was 17 years old. He didn’t know the brother’s birth date or death date. The FHC worker said we couldn’t do any work on it without the death date, so Robert called the Tribal Office in Cibecue and asked how to get that information. They referred him to Vital Statistics in Whiteriver where Robert found a very helpful person who gave him the date over the phone (all you HIPPA people stop gasping) thus enabling them to proceed and we left with the name Temple Ready.

Irene was substantially better prepared and sailed through the whole process by herself. She wants to do the work for her grandson, as we mentioned yesterday. She also told us that she’s already done the work for about 10 of her ancestors. She also left with the name Temple Ready. We have a Youth Baptism on Jan 26 and will get these two names baptized and then they can do their work at our February Branch Temple Day.

When we left Irene said she felt so happy inside to have that done. I think we all felt the same way. It was a good day.
