Had to leave home at 7:45 to be in Show Low for training/interviews today. Had a short, boring training where we had to fill out stupid surveys that had nothing to do with our assignment. Basically they wanted to know how well we’re using something we’re not using…i.e., Preach My Gospel. We just haven’t done any teaching. We usually refer that to the Elders. Then we had our interview with President Buttars. We both felt much better about it this time. He was more personable and actually seemed to know who we are. He said several times how much he appreciates having us in Cibecue and we were able to ask some questions and get some good suggestions. I don’t know if he was more comfortable with us or we were more comfortable with him, or both.

Then we did the inevitable grocery shopping which has to be done every time we get to Show Low as that’s obviously our only opportunity. We also bought Christmas gifts for the Family Services party December 8 and some gifts for the two girls hopefully getting baptized on Sunday. Had a decidedly average lunch at KFG Buffet and were forced to go to Wal-Mart which we avoid like the plague…actually with all the flu bugs around it probably is the plague. Rosie, our friend, had to leave our meeting because she started throwing up.

And speaking of bugs we’re sorry all our family has been so sick. We thought you were supposed to be protected while we’re here. We must be doing a bad job because it doesn’t seem to be helping you. Hope everybody gets better soon.

We spent most of the day laughing about the panic over the big snowstorm that hit Show Low last Wednesday. They told us there were 6 inches of snow. Well, that may have been true but it’s certainly disappeared now. People from Idaho just don’t consider 6 inches of snow a national disaster. Rosie and Steve said they couldn’t get out of their house until yesterday because the snowplow didn’t come to plow them out. They have a 4-wheel drive SVU and can’t drive through 6 inches of snow? Then they said the plow only scraped off the snow and left the ice underneath so they still were afraid to drive. Snowplows clear off ice? We had no idea. There was some snow and ice in the church parking lot still because no one had bothered to clear it. But today it warmed up to 50 degrees and everything pretty much melted. We can understand how the road from here to Show Low could be really nasty and icy this winter. It’s such a canyon road and some places because of the mountains never really get sunshine on the road. But this was hardly the storm of the century everyone around here sounded like it was.
