Dec 9

December 9, 2006

We started early this morning in an attempt to have things finished up early and have a pleasant, relaxing evening. That dream ended quickly when Maxine Bonito, who has gone to work at K-Mart, asked us if we would fix supper for her family because she has to work late tonight. Now that’s not exactly how it happened. We went over to her house and asked if there was anything we could do to help her. She was worried about President Bonito being responsible for feeding her children so we offered to fix them dinner. We went there because she dumped the job of getting people signed up to bring food for the branch dinner next Wednesday on us. We had some hopes we could get out of it but she was too quick for us. In reality we have a lot of sympathy for her. She’s overwhelmed right now with all she’s trying to do, her health problems, and the burden of being pretty much the only reliable member of the church, besides her husband, in Cibecue. It didn’t hurt us to help her.

That meant we could slowly see our Saturday developing into knocking on doors and encouraging (is that like begging?) people to bring food to the Christmas Dinner. Most everyone was very willing and signed up for numerous dishes. We still have some empty spots but someone else will have to help fill them. We’ve gone to everyone we know in town. It is surprising to us how many people we can locate now. We’ve really met a lot of people in 2 ½ months. We even remember some of them.

We also went to the 3 sisters who needed glitter for their table runners. Then we had lunch with the Elders and Ona, Portia and Leah came over for a couple of hours and made a table runner each. Then President Bonito, Faith and Keegan came to dinner at 7:00 and left at 9:30.

I only wish we could find a little something to do each day to fill the long, lonely hours.

And we end with sincere repentance as each and every one of you earned the $20.00, including Sharon. Could anyone out there loan us a little cash?

I'm really glad the craft project turned out so well! The weird thing about the mission is something that was a discouragement can turn on a dime into a great experience. Who would have thought after the first attempt at the craft you would have had such a successful second attempt. I remember one elder in my mission describing the mission as a lot of tough mixed in with indescribable sweetness.

Randy, kids, and I went to the LA temple to see the lights. They're not quite Temple Square, but it was very Christmassy. Hard to imagine it'll be nine years on the 29th since Randy and I were sealed there.

We'll let you off the hook this time, but there will be interest for every day it's late.. What can I say, Cade is wearing off on me.
