Food order day, so we left pretty early this morning to go to Snowflake. We got a food order for Roletta Murphy, who is Irene’s (Relief Society President) daughter. Roletta has 6 kids, so it was a pretty big order. When Robert asked President about it he said Roletta always has enough money for liquor and drugs but not enough for food. So what’s new out here?

The policy at the storehouse now is to have whoever brings in an order help with filling it. We actually really enjoy doing this. The people are all so nice and it’s fun to learn how the storehouse is organized. Lately we’ve been saying we should bring the person who wants the order with us so they could work a little for their food. However, that would necessitate actually bringing them and giving up the freedom we have on these days to get groceries and do some of the things we like to do.

And we did some really important stuff today. For instance, we bought tickets to see Pirates of the Caribbean on Saturday. We’ll be in Show Low Saturday morning for a baptism and then we have a lunch with the senior couples Saturday afternoon. We figure we can catch the movie after that. The lunch is for the Petersons who are supposed to leave in a couple of weeks, unless their endless petitions to the missionary department bear fruit and they give in and let them stay. It really is a pretty sad situation because these people have nowhere to go when they leave. They tell us they’re going to stay with his father and take care of him, but they don’t seem to be much looking forward to it.

We also went to the LDS bookstore in Show Low and got groceries. We got back to Cibecue about 3:00, unloaded the food order, and went visiting. We saw Dion and Verbena and took them a letter from the Mesa Temple. They are scheduled to be sealed to each other and their baby on June 21, so we talked to them about that for a while, then went to see Eric, but he wasn’t’ home. We then visited Gilbert and Alma. They want an order for some cleaning supplies, but don’t know whether or not Bonito will do that because they’re not members. Next we went to see Deoma Henry. Robert talked to her about having her son, Cory, ordained to the Aaronic Priesthood. Cory is 12 and comes to Scouts regularly, but not to church. We found out that Deoma has been through the Temple and talked to her about getting ready to go again so she can go with her son Byron, and his wife Shawna.

Then we went to see Byron and Shawna. We are hoping to get them to the Temple June 23, but it’s not going well. Today they said they just don’t feel worthy because they struggle with having family home evening, family prayer and paying their tithing. They attend church regularly, which puts them way ahead of some people we’ve taken. We know they have to be ready to do this, but out here if we don’t push a little bit nothing ever happens. The hard part is knowing when we’re getting too pushy. We’ve tried and tried to get them to temple classes, but they just don’t show. So Robert suggested doing the temple class during Sunday School for the next few weeks. They have 2 little children who are very hard to handle, and those kids are upstairs with me for Primary so it would be a good time to meet with the parents. We think we’ll just suggest that they go ahead and finish the classes and then see how they feel about the 23rd.
