Ricky called first thing, at 6:30 this morning, to tell us he’s hungry. The hospital only provides one meal per patient, and since both of them have to stay in the hospital with the baby (we’ve given up trying to figure out why) it’s not enough food for them. Never mind one hospital tray is more food than Robert and I together are eating right now at any given meal. Last night we called Elder and Sister Lamm in Whiteriver and asked them to go over and give the baby a blessing. So Robert called them and warned them they’d be asked for food. Ricky called later and said they brought over some chips and sandwiches.

Then Dion called and said he need help with his electricity bill. Robert said talk to President Bonito. They seem to think Robert has been sustained as Bishop lately. Manuelita called, too, and wanted us to go to Whiteriver and get Simpson was taken to the hospital last night. We had promised to go with Verbena at 10:00 to pick corn for her cornbread demonstration at Homemaking tomorrow night, so we couldn’t go get him. She called back in about an hour and said he was home…he hitchhiked. That’s exactly what she didn’t want him to do, but he survived to drink again.

However, Verbena’s sister went with her to pick corn, so we didn’t have to. At last we had time to clean the trailer. Then we went to Alfred and Thelma’s to talk to her about Fast Sunday lunch. She wasn’t home but Alfred said that they need to talk to us. They came over after lunch and told us they’re behind in their house payment and are being evicted on Sept 18. They had talked to President Bonito and he said he needed some medical records that show why they aren’t working so he could ask the Stake President for help. We think they really wanted us to say that isn’t necessary, but Robert told them when he was bishop if you asked for more than $1000 you had to have that kind of documentation. So again pretty much all we could say was talk to President.

Rochelle and Jared came for piano. While I was teaching Robert started trying to update the branch membership list. That should keep us busy for the next 7 months.

Just before dinner Thelma called and said Nada’s baby died. Did we say Sunday that Myrna told us she’d had the baby, it was a girl, and it had spina bifida plus other deformities. They operated twice on the baby, not sure what for, and it survived both surgeries but died this afternoon. Really, it’s a blessing for that poor baby. Myrna told us that Nada was having a very hard time because she was in denial her whole pregnancy. Even though the doctors repeatedly told her the baby had severe problems she said she believed the baby was fine. So the reality of it all was a real shock.

Tonight while Robert was at Scouts I made banana bread, chopped up all the vegetables for the stew I’m making for Homemaking tomorrow, cut up the meat, made honey butter, made veggie dip to take to Cali with us, and typed up the recipes for everything I’m cooking for tomorrow night.

We wish we could find a few things to do. The days drag by when we sit around with nothing to do all day. Actually, we wish we could leave for CA right now.
