August 23, 2007

We started getting ready for Homemaking Meeting at 6:00 AM and finished at noon. I made two pots of stew and cornbread and put on a quilt. The corn bread was from the Essential Mormon Cookbook and it was yummy! Maxine said she’ll be there to handle things tonight and Verbena said she’s ready to do the Apache cornbread. Hope they come through. If not, I left the crock-pot on low and will probably burn the church to the ground.

We visited Cecil before we left to talk about Nada’s baby. The baby is his granddaughter. They’re having a family meeting this afternoon to make funeral plans.

Arrived in Phoenix around 4:30 and are at a Hampton Inn tonight. Ate dinner at Red Lobster then went to a mall the desk clerk had directed us to when we checked in. This was the first time we’ve been to a pretty much all Hispanic mall. We were definitely in the minority, but we’re used to that now. All the store signs and ads were in Spanish. We bought Robert a new pair of shorts, since the ones he’s wearing are practically falling off his now skinny butt.

It’s very hot here. Yesterday they missed tying the record for number of days over 110 by one degree…the high temperature was officially 109. We’re betting they may have done it today. We’ll be interested to hear the news tonight and see. This may be their last chance as it’s supposed to rain over the weekend and cool clear down to the high 90’s. Most Arizona residents are probably pulling out their parkas getting ready for the big cool down.

Ending our day safe ensconced in our room locked away from all the Hispanics and Apaches in our lives. Hopefully we’ll get to sleep early so we can make an early getaway in the morning.

Help! Our parents have disappeared! I bet those lousy kids of theirs kept them so busy they lost the narrative thread!
