September 20, 2007

Tonight we are safely ensconced in a very nice Best Western in Chinle, Az. Chinle is on the Navajo reservation, but as a town, compared to Whiteriver and Cibecue, it looks like Beverly Hills.

Before we left this morning we reported our break-in to Bill from the FM group in Show Low, then had to call his supervisor, Sam Chamberlain, then the mission home. Bill says he thinks they can put up some metal screens over our windows to make the trailer more secure. Great! Now we’ll be living in a prison. He also wants to put a new heavy metal door on the back like the one we have on the front door.

We also talked to Pres Bonito and asked him to check on the trailer tonight. He actually seemed quite concerned and said he would call the stake president to request that bars be put on the windows of the trailer. We can’t decide if all this interest in barring the windows and doors is to keep future thieves out or to keep us from fleeing Cibecue. When things like this happen the temptation is almost overpowering.

Sharon called today and when I answered the phone she said, “Hello. I’m calling from the mission office. Your assignment has been changed and you will be serving the remainder of your mission in Ogden, Utah.” Now there’s a good idea. However, the fact that we’re working on the final one-third of the mission is very heartening.

Last week after our temple trip we both agreed that Satan would not let a day like that happen without some form of counter-attack. The work is moving forward in Cibecue and he will do all he can to stop it. We only let him win if we become discouraged and give up.

We had supper at the attached, very clean restaurant tonight with Steve and Rosie and enjoyed their company. They’re a very fun, unique couple.
