April 14-17, 2007

Saturday night we took Alfred, Thelma, Dion, Verbena and Murphy to Stake Conference Adult Session. You might ask how did we get all those people in our truck? We didn’t. We had been given alternate transportation. Last Wednesday Brother Wilcock left his beater van here for us to drive to Conference. What a wreck. But it got us there and Robert made Dion drive it home. We took everyone to Bro and Sis Wilcock’s daughter’s reception…revenge for the van. It was a beautiful reception and they served fruit, ribs, cheese, crackers, cake and ice cream cake. We got to conference an hour late because we were having such fun at the reception.

In the afternoon we had gone visiting some people asking if they wanted to go with us. We were sort of ho hum about who to visit, except for Dion and Verbena. We just kept saying we had to go by their house. When we got to conference the Stake President had a letter for them saying they could go ahead and have their baby sealed to them. They were so happy. We are confident that was the reason we needed to invite them to go with us.

Sunday morning we went to pick up Alfred and Thelma, but they were still in bed. So we headed straight home and dumped the van for our truck. Verbena was the only one who went with us and Dion met her at the stake center after he got off work. So after conference we went for a nice ride out through St. Johns, a town we hadn’t seen before. Unfortunately it will not remain on our must-see list. Turned out to be pretty much more Arizona nothing. We did see some truly lovely manufactured homes and trailer parks.

Monday Robert golfed. I got my Primary ready for Sunday and then did some scrapbooking. In the evening we ran around and made sure the piano people knew we won’t be here on Wed for lessons. At Megan Dale’s house her mom, Rhonda, was sick and asked Robert to give her a blessing (Rhonda is not a member).

Today Robert stayed home while I had a girls’ day out. On Saturday Maxine Bonito told me she had spent the whole day trying to find a dress for Faith to wear at a wedding next Saturday, but couldn’t find one. She said she’d seen one at Penney’s in the Superstition Springs Mall in Phoenix but didn’t have gas money to go there and buy it. So I volunteered to drive her to Phoenix. This was my first trip alone through the Salt River Canyon. We’re all still alive tonight so guess it was OK. We had a great day. Faith got to skip school and go shopping with us. They are really good company and I enjoyed going with them. When we got home Maxine gave me a hug and said no one has ever done anything that nice for her before. I was glad I could help. See, Robert, I do have some compassion.

Meantime, back at the ranch, Robert ran around in the van getting things ready for our presentation tomorrow and posting signs advertising the parenting class we’ve decided to start. We’re anxious for another night we can sit around waiting for no one to come. He also once again tried to repair our toilet, which runs constantly. Hopeless. In about 4 flushes it was clogged again.

Now we’re looking forward to the presentation tomorrow and going to Tucson tomorrow afternoon.
