The branch Easter dinner turned out very well. I made the traditional macaroni and cheese today, we set up chairs and tables and collected Bonito’s grill. Robert had to buy charcoal for it.

Shauna Henry and Maxine Bonito went to Show Low to pick up the cake from Wal-Mart that we ordered yesterday. Wal-Mart has a policy that you have to pre-pay for full sheet cakes. We ordered 2 of them and they gave us a ticket for $35.00. We paid it at the cash register and brought it back to the bakery where they recorded that we had paid for the cakes. We both agreed that was pretty cheap for 2 sheet cakes. Well, when Shauna and Maxine went to pick them up they said we had only paid for 1 cake. Shauna called us and Robert said to ask if he could speak to a manager, because they said they couldn’t give them the 2nd cake. Robert said it was clearly their mistake, because they had 2 different opportunities to tell us we had only paid for one. The bakery worker said the manager had gone home, but there was an assistant manager available. Robert said that would be fine, but after a few minutes Shauna came back on the phone and said when the assistant manager came she said they could just have the 2nd cake. Points for Wal-Mart for making a good choice to keep customers.

We cooked hamburgers and hot dogs, and had assigned macaroni and cheese, potato salads, chips, ketchup, mustard, olives and pickles. We got lots of everything except potato salad and that’s the thing we had the most people sign up for. Go figure. But we had food for everyone and they seemed to have a good time. We served about 150 people.

Shauna hid her plastic eggs behind the church and the kids had great fun finding them. We put money in a few of the eggs, $20 all together, and that was fun. Apparently they don’t do that much around here. Perhaps their children aren’t as greedy as our children were????

These big dinners always wear us both out, but we really feel they’re worth the effort. The Elders came last night and got some good contacts, although we kept them so busy helping us they didn’t visit as much as we had all hoped they could. Nevertheless, they’re busy helping and the people see that.

The weather was absolutely perfect for an outside dinner. When we were finishing about 8:30 I was a little cool, but never actually cold. It was a beautiful day.

We feel like we have a hangover this week as well. It must be the Charlton clan. Yeah, for your success with the Easter shin dig. Wow, you got a second cake for free from Walmart you are miracle workers there! Have fun with the parenting class. They have experts hope they appreciate it.
