Nice surprise this morning. We picked up our mail for the first time since we left for Christmas and it was full of lovely Christmas cards. We heard from so many of our friends and family. It was great to read their letters and catch up on what they’re doing. On our way home from California we called Lynda Reiley and she was on her way to Hawaii. Last night we talked to Pat and she’s taking a cruise to Hawaii in February. Ed and Dede are cruising the eastern coast next fall. We’re trying hard not to covet.

Finally managed to get some study time this morning. Very much enjoyed that. Then we wrote a letter to the supervising judge in Whiteriver about our ARP program hoping that he might refer some court-ordered addiction recovery clients. We delivered the letter to Whiteriver this afternoon…we’re getting like the natives and not using the postal system, I guess. Truth is we didn’t know the address and couldn’t find it anywhere so just went over there. Did a little grocery shopping and came home to scouts at 6:30.

We had some yummy steaks ready to cook for dinner but around 5:00 Shauna Henry came by to show me her scrapbooks. She would like to do some scrapbooking with the young women and I think that’s a great idea. She has some beautiful work. She stayed until 6:00 so then we didn’t have time to cook the steaks and ate spaghetti with cheese and no sauce on it. Oh where is McDonald’s when we need them?

Two new boys came to scouts and several actually got there by themselves. That was an impressive streak of independence. So a successful night with the scouts was a winner.

But the loser part of the day was that we found out Bonito hasn’t done anything to prepare for baptisms for the dead on Saturday so he just cancelled it. He said there are no youth who could go and that’s not true. There are only 4 or 5 but we sure would have liked to see them have a temple experience. Also, on Sunday the Young Women President spoke in church and announced that she’s expecting. If only she were married we would have been delighted. So now what? Can you have a YW president who is pregnant by her live-in boyfriend? At least she comes to church regularly. And she’s a good woman and interested in the young women. And she gets herself to church. Wherever could they find a replacement for a woman like that? We’re not being facetious. We really like Myrna and wish she’d just get married so she can still be YW president.

The weather has been great since we came back…every day in the 60’s just like before we left. Actually it’s kind of boring. I remember Kris Bever said that about the weather in Hawaii. I understand now what she was talking about. For excitement we check the weather in Logan and St. Anthony every day. St. Anthony has a winter storm warning for tomorrow. We can hard wait to call Jerry and Maxine tomorrow night and hear if they actually had a storm. If so we want to hear every detail.
