October 10, 2007

This morning we had a brunch at Steve and Rosie’s house in Pinetop for Elder and Sister Eckman. They will be leaving next week. We drove up with Elder and Sister Lamm from Whiteriver. They are quite discouraged and we felt they just needed someone to listen to them. They had many appointments that fell through this past week and that was frustrating to them. They also have trouble getting 75 OYM’s every week. They said they typically get about 10. We were happy to be the listeners. This mission consists of 1 baby step forward and 10 back, and the best we can offer each other is a sympathetic ear now and again.

The brunch was nice. The missionary couples here now are very pleasant people. Eckmans don’t have a replacement coming in the near future. There are rumors that full-time Elders will be placed in Whiteriver and they will cover Whiteriver, McNary and Carrizo. It will be interesting to see if that really happens.

When we got back to Cibecue we stopped by the trailer to pick up flyers for Homemaking meeting tomorrow. We heard someone running up the driveway. It was Amber Tessay. She was in tears and said her grandma kicked them out of the house that morning. We went out and talked with Henrietta and she said they’re going to stay with her sister in Whiteriver for a while until they figure out what to do. Everything they own was piled in the back of their pickup.

We spent 3 hours delivering flyers and then Robert had scouts. Long day.
