Zone Conference today. Since it was in St. Johns we had to leave the house at 7:00 this morning.
Elder Itri is now AP so it was fun to see him again. We had a good conference, the highlight being when President Craig announced that Zone Conference from now on will end at 2:00 PM instead of 4:00 PM.
President Craig is not the dynamic speaker that President Buttars was but he certainly gives a solid message. He’s very sensitive and thoughtful. For instance, the Elder who inspects the cars came into the chapel right in the middle of the president’s talk this morning. President Craig stopped and said, “Why don’t you make your presentation now and then you can go ahead and leave?” Then he sat down and let the car guy do his thing.
True to his promise he was all done by 2:00. We would have gone home early, but the scouts had a camping trip today and Robert didn’t want to show up early enough to have to help transport them. So we went to another movie. This time we saw “The Seeker.” It was OK.
We went to the Wells Fargo in Pinetop to cash a check and saw Cheryl, Naysha and Tiffini there. Cheryl told me last night that they received $1800 in social security for Timmy a couple of days ago. When I talked to her at the bank she said Wal-Mart refused their check card so she had to come clear up to the bank to see what was wrong. Then she would have to go back to Wal-Mart because they kept her card. Finances are so hard for the people here. She will continue to receive $600 a month for Timmy…the $1800 included some back payments. But for the meantime they remind us of “Alexander Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday.”
At Kmart we ran into Verbena. They’ve been living in Canyon Day with his parents for a while but are back now. She came to Homemaking last night. She said Dion only got $12 in his paycheck this month because their car broke down. They got it fixed but now the tribe will deduct the cost from his check until it’s paid off. She said she only has $11 to last the rest of the month, but she was shopping for a Halloween costume for her nephew, who is 6 months old. If you have no money for groceries or gas, is buying a Halloween costume for an infant a good idea?

I'm just really happy the General Cofnerence thing worked out for the Bonitos. That will be a highlight for them for a long, long time. (Or at least until Christmas.)
I might have told you this Allison story, but here it is again: We are Dodger Stadium, debating over whether or not we need to have a ticket for her. I say, "Oh, she's free." And all of a sudden Allison bursts into tears: "I'm not free. I'm four!"
