October 22-23, 2007

Yesterday was P-day, which means Robert went golfing. I stayed home to scrapbook, but didn’t do much. I had the worst headache I’ve had since coming out here, so went to bed early.

Today we cleaned, delivered flyers for homemaking meeting, then Robert studied this afternoon, so I got some time to scrapbook after all. Robert completed 4 hours of CE credits to renew his psych license next year. He got the materials for the credits from Family Services, so the credits are free.

Just before dinner Robert went over to visit Thelma. She told him that last night a friend of Jared’s was killed. We didn’t know the boy, but he was a freshman in high school. Apparently he was staying at a relative’s home, sleeping in the shed, and the shed caught fire. We said a couple of days ago that we were about due for a tragedy here on the rez. It’s just a sad, sad place to live.

We spent a lot of time today watching the news, keeping up with the fires in California. We’re glad that Heather and Beckie and family are safe and that Shawn and fam are in Arkansas, not San Diego.

We met a new public health nurse who is working here in Cibecue now four days a week. She’s from Pocatello and is a member of the church. She’s worked here before, about 4 years ago. She works as a “contract” nurse, so she has a motor home and goes all over working for a few weeks or months, then moves to a new place. She taught at USU for a while in the nursing program. She said that she has a daughter who lives in Pocatello and the daughter’s visiting teacher worked in the temple with us. She couldn’t remember the name but said she’d get it from her daughter.

We are thankful to be here in Arkansas during this firestorm in San Diego. Yet, we are saddened to see the damage occuring. Some of my students have lost their homes. Our hearts goes out to them at this time.

How scary for everyone there.

And, what a small world to meet someone from home. :) Glad you got another day of scrapbooking. How are you doing on supplies?
