October 16, 2007

This morning Brother McNeil came over to talk about the Arts & Crafts business he’s trying to get going for the tribe, especially for Cibecue. He has scheduled a community meeting for Sunday and wanted us to pass out some flyers for the meeting. We were happy to do that, because we think it’s a great idea. Have we mentioned that he works for the tribe and is the director of planning and development for them? He has some good ideas, but it’s tough to get the tribal council’s support.

So after lunch we delivered the flyers. It worked out good since we needed to do a lot of visiting anyway. We have temple day this Saturday. This small temple wants the names of everyone who is attending the session, so every month we have to go and visit all the recommend holders to see who is actually planning to go. The good news is that this is a much more complicated job than it was when we first came, especially since at that time there was no such thing as a branch temple day. Besides that, there were 6 recommend holders in the branch a year ago. Now there are 15. If Byron, Juliet and Myrna get to the temple before we leave, the number of recommend holders would be triple what it was when we came.

We got a good response from our members. Only 4 said no, and some of them had a good reason. Fernando will be at the hunting camp. Dion has to work. President says he has to get wood (not classified as one of the good excuses) and Irene just said no (no surprise, she’s only been once in all the times we’ve invited her). Cheryl wasn’t sure and Cecil wasn’t home. Everyone else said yes, but we’ll see who actually shows up.

It has been rainy and windy tonight. We were looking forward to a nice cozy night at home when Kit Cody called. He wanted a blessing. Robert said he would come by in the morning, so Kit asked him to call President Bonito and ask if he would do it tonight. Bet you can all guess the end of this story. President called Robert back and said he told Kit he would come but he doesn’t have a ride and could Robert come and get him and they could go together. So Robert had to go out in the rain…exactly what he didn’t want to do tonight.
