Nov 19-20 07

November 19-20, 2007

Monday we fasted. We both thought we wouldn’t live to post another Blog entry. But we did. We survived. Also, Beckie, Cade and Andi were all on their way to Arkansas. Randy and Heather arrived Sunday. So as of last night all the psycho sibs are together for Thanksgiving. We know they’ll have lots of fun.

Robert golfed and because he thought the golf ball looked like a big boiled egg he shot his best golf score in a long time. I stayed home but didn’t scrapbook. I tried to catch up with everything we let go all last week.

When Robert finished golfing he went out to Wal-Mart to pick up Naysha’s birthday cake for Cheryl. He delivered that on his way home. When he got home Ricky called and asked if we could pick up his sister and bring her to the birthday party. We were supposed to pick up Murphy, too, but when Robert called to remind him he said he was going to another birthday party at his daughter’s house. Robert Ivins also called. Sunday night he had called and asked us to take some tithing envelopes to his brother who lives just up the street so his brother could bring them to him. I can’t remember if we said Robert no longer has a house in Cibecue. The Housing Authority made him move out because he never occupied the house any more. We got so busy Sunday night we forgot about the envelopes, so Robert called tonight to chastise us. I answered the phone and he was rude to me, so I passed it to Robert and he was rude to him, too. Robert suggested he might want to have his membership records transferred to where he’s living (with his girlfriend) now, and Robert Ivins said, “You can’t make me change to a different branch!” About then we realized how drunk he was and stopped paying any attention to him. We did get the tithing envelopes to his brother.

We went to Naysha’s birthday party and got there just in time to break our fast. Cheryl’s not the cleanest cook we know, but we were too hungry to care. Just as we got our plate of food Cheryl said she didn’t have enough plates for the cake and could we go to the church and get some for her. So we ran back to the church to get plates and ate our food (fry bread, beans, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes…this is what they call an Indian taco) on the way.

We came back in time to have cake, but had to leave before Naysha opened her presents because we still had two food orders to fill out. We gave Naysha one of those small hymn books, and a small bottle of Bath and Body lotion and body wash.

Then we went to President Bonito’s sister’s house because he had asked us to get her a food order. Vanae, the sister, said she really didn’t need food, but had asked him to help fill up her propane tank, as she didn’t have any money to do that. She took one of the brother’s children, the 9-year-old girl, and has missed a lot of work getting the papers filled out and going to court and all they had to do to make the arrangements for these kids. So she said she only got $100 in her paycheck this month. She works at the school. We think Maxine has quit her job at Safeway since getting those kids. Oh, well, she lasted longer than she has at any other job. And she’s still doing the EMT training. We still did the food order for Vanae, because we told her if the church provided food for her she could then use her money to buy propane. But she still wants David to help with the propane. As we were filling out the food order her husband was very busy installing and setting up the BRAND NEW BIG SCREEN HIGH DEFINITION TV they just bought.

David and Maxine had no propane last week either. They came over to the church one night to cook dinner because she didn’t have enough propane to use the stove in her house.

Vanae said Maxine took her grandma to the nursing home today. Good for her. We tried to call her but she didn’t answer her phone.

Then we went to Thelma’s and did a food order for her. Thelma is in line for my speech about how she’ll have to wait a couple of months for the next food order. She’s getting a little too greedy for my taste. I tried really hard to keep this food order reasonable, but it was huge by the time we finished. I would say, “Let’s get 2 of each of the canned vegetables” and she would say, “No, get me 6.” We told both Vanae and Thelma that they have to pick up the orders themselves because we’re going to Tucson. I’m sure it doesn’t make them happy when the white slaves rebel, but that’s how it is this week. I don’t think Thelma can get all that food in her car and I tried to tell her that at least 3 different times. But it’s her problem now. Thelma seems to view the Bishop’s Storehouse as her personal grocery store and I guarantee we’re going to change that perception in the near future.

By the end of the day we were both irritable and tired. We’re so glad we’re getting away for a few days. Ken Brown was right when he said you have to get away from here sometimes. As long as we’re in town the work just never stops.

Today we are on our way to Tucson via Snowflake. Now we realize that’s not the route AAA would choose, but that’s the way it is out here. We’re going to the distribution center to exchange Juliet’s garments. She’s so sincere about trying to wear them the right way we just couldn’t leave her without any garments to wear until we get back. So we’re making a run to Snowflake, back to Cibecue to give her the new garments, and then on to Tucson. Trust us to be able to make a 3-hour trip into an all-day journey!
